Search Engine Optimization or SEO Is Key to Web Design

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of creating the proper structure and keyword alignment within your web design which will allow your site to move more readily upward in the search engine rankings. It is obvious that even the most well designed, appealing website with unique highly attractive layout, functional navigation and magnificent graphics will do no good for whatever business it represents, if no one sees it. SEO, done properly, allows for the best positioning of a site relative to the search terms utilized on the site. If the internet is the theatre and the website is the play, then SEO is the usher. If the net is one big traffic grid and websites are the cars traveling over the grid, then SEO is the traffic signal system. Thus SEO is a key factor in web design, especially if you want people to actually look at your site.

SEO is the guidance system for the space shuttle internet. Utilizing a very complicated set of algorithms to read and maneuver websites up and down in the search engine rankings based upon the keyword choices the sites have made and the use of these words within the site, among other factors, SEO positions millions of sites in elementary particles of seconds. In a colossal mechanism the size of, say, our justice system, where guilt and innocence are determined within a complex, incredibly detailed legal system by applying the letter of the law rather than almost anyone's definition of justice, casualties of the system abound. At least within the justice system the rules stay pretty much the same from month to month. On the net, the rules change rather radically from search engine to search engine and even within the various search engines from time to time.

SEO is the Old Sea Cap'n navigating the ship using only the night sky. SEO done properly may be the key element in stopping the bleeding from a business hopelessly mired in the red, cauterizing the wounds and redirecting the fates. SEO takes time, at least several months to see significant results but it need not be expensive. SEO is to web rank what CEO is to corporate decision making, but how indeed does the corporate decision maker decide who is both savvy enough and current enough to entrust with his very own website's SEO? If you remember the story where the traveling salesman asked the farmer how to get to the nearby town, the farmer thought for a long time before finally concluding, "You know, I don't think you can actually get there from here," you get some idea of how difficult it is to decide where or to whom you should entrust your SEO. SEO, by the very nature of the beast, is the quintessential moving target. For instance, the website "SEO King" has captured the glorious 186th spot on Google, for God's sake. There doesn't seem to be an "SEO Queen" and the website "SEO Pawn" is a place to hock your website in order to pay for high priced SEO so that your site begins to function. Even "Mr. SEO" has not been able to gain the "top fifty" site ranking on Google, coming in at a distant number 74, three behind SEO Logic, an apparent oxymoron.

So if you want the best SEO for your website, find someone current, knowledgeable and savvy. Remember, SEO does not need to be expensive to be effective. So go to Google, type in Inexpensive SEO and peruse that first page. At least they know enough about SEO to be on page one. Then look for a good deal with a guarantee of moving up. Then talk to the web designer to make sure his thinking on the subject of SEO is current and he knows how to properly decide and research your keywords. He should tell you about needing incoming links, submitting articles to generate more links and that SEO is neither instant nor magic. He should be talking about several months to get fairly good positioning on the search engines. Try to work out a monthly fee with no more than one month payment up front. Ask for a guaranteed increased rank each month or you don't have to pay. Unless you are having other significant work done, the SEO alone should not be more than plus or minus $200 per month. If it all seems to line up " Go For It! In a few months you will be basking in the glory of daily free clicks. More Power to you then because you have just beaten SEO and become a webmaster.

SEO Firms And SEO Technology

Owning an SEO Firm I face challenges every day. The biggest of them all is not getting my clients placed well on the search engines but the SEO technology itself. With the ever growing trend of Search engines, SEO firms face a continuous necessity to keep themselves update with the SEO Technology. Major Search engines like Google change their algorithm every other day. A few years ago, Meta tags were the key factor but currently it’s the Content. With plenty of people spamming content on the internet, Google faces the challenge of providing genuine information to its users. This will require Google to do a complete algorithm change in the near future.

What happens then? Keeping in pace with the SEO Technology is the first most important decision any SEO firm must take. This involves a lot of Education, Research, and immense development. Internet is one of the most lucrative industries with changes happening every minute. SEO Firms alone face a challenge which is never ending.

When choosing an SEO firm for your Website, Make sure that they have a good track record of at least 3-4 years. Interest in learning and patience is required on your side. SEO Results are not achieved overnight. It takes Weeks, Months and sometimes years. Patience is something which is essential on your side. Do your ground works well before you choose any SEO firm for your Website optimization and make sure that they stay educated on SEO technology. Interview them and convince yourself before you are giving out any written order and ask for a Money back guarantee if they don’t achieve the results.

LATENT SEMANTIC INDEXING

Regular keyword searches approach a document collection with a kind of accountant mentality: a document contains a given word or it doesn't, with no middle ground. We create a result set by looking through each document in turn for certain keywords and phrases, tossing aside any documents that don't contain them, and ordering the rest based on some ranking system. Each document stands alone in judgement before the search algorithm - there is no interdependence of any kind between documents, which are evaluated solely on their contents.

Latent semantic indexing adds an important step to the document indexing process. In addition to recording which keywords a document contains, the method examines the document collection as a whole, to see which other documents contain some of those same words. LSI considers documents that have many words in common to be semantically close, and ones with few words in common to be semantically distant. This simple method correlates surprisingly well with how a human being, looking at content, might classify a document collection. Although the LSI algorithm doesn't understand anything about what the words mean, the patterns it notices can make it seem astonishingly intelligent.

When you search an LSI-indexed database, the search engine looks at similarity values it has calculated for every content word, and returns the documents that it thinks best fit the query. Because two documents may be semantically very close even if they do not share a particular keyword, LSI does not require an exact match to return useful results. Where a plain keyword search will fail if there is no exact match, LSI will often return relevant documents that don't contain the keyword at all.

By placing additional weight on related words in content, or words in similar positions in other related documents, LSI has a net effect of lowering the value of pages which only match the specific term and do not back it up with related terms.

LSI vs Semantically Related Words:
After being roasted by a few IR students and scientists I realized that many SEOs (like me) blended the concepts of semantically related words with latent semantic indexing, and due to constraints of the web it is highly unlikely that large scale search engines are using LSI on their main search indexes.

Nonetheless, it is overtly obvious to anyone who studies search relevancy algorithms by watching the results and ranking pages that the following are true for Google:

* search engines such as Google do try to figure out phrase relationships when processing queries, improving the rankings of pages with related phrases even if those pages are not focused on the target term
* pages that are too focused on one phrase tend to rank worse than one would expect (sometimes even being filtered out for what some SEOs call being over-optimized)
* pages that are focused on a wider net of related keywords tend to have more stable rankings for the core keyword and rank for a wider net of keywords

Given the above, here are tips to help increase your page relevancy scores and make your rankings far more stable...

Mix Your Anchor Text!
Latent semantic indexing (or similar technologies) can also be used to look at the link profile of your website. If all your links are heavy in a few particular phrases and light on other similar phrases then your site may not rank as well.

Example Related Terms:
Many of my links to this site say "SEO Book" but I also used various other anchor text combinations to make the linkage data appear less manipulative.

Instead of using SEO in all the links some of them may use phrases like
search engine optimization
search engine marketing
search engine placement
search engine positioning
search engine promotion
search engine ranking
etc.

Instead of using book in all the links some other good common words might be
ebook
manual
guide
tips
report
tutorial
etc.

How do I Know What Words are Related?
There are a variety of options to know what words are related to one another.

* Search Google for search results with related terms using a ~. For example, Google Search: ~seo will return pages with terms matching or related to seo and will highlight some of the related words in the search results.
* Use a lexical database
* Look at variations of keywords suggested by various keyword suggestion tools.
* write a page and use the Google AdSense sandbox to see what type of ads they would try to deliver to that page.
* Read the page copy and analyze the backlinks of high ranking pages.

Google Sandbox and Semantic Relationships:
The concept of "Google Sandbox" has become synonymous with "the damn thing won't rank" or whatever. The Sandbox idea is based upon sites with inadequate perceived trust taking longer to rank well.

Understanding the semantic relationships of words is just another piece of the relevancy algorithms, though many sites will significantly shift in rankings due to it. The Google sandbox theory typically has more to do with people getting the wrong kinds of links or not getting enough links than it does with semantic relationships. Some sites and pages are hurt though by being too focused on a particular keyword or phrase.

Where do I learn more about Latent Semantic Indexing?
A while ago I read Patterns in Unstructured Data and found it was wrote in a rather plain english easy to understand manner.

Site Rank

SiteRank is a concept that every SEO should be aware, as it is likely to be a factor in modern search engine rankings. The basic concept is that a high PageRank'd page from a site full of well respected pages will do better than a high PageRank'd page from a site with few well respected pages. Respect in this case equals lots links from lots of different sites with richness of anchor text.

The lesson is that you will do better creating a quality popular site full of lots of content, than trying to game the search engines by SEO'ing your homepage to the max. You can SEO all you want, but when the engines sense a strong case of "link love" those sites will wind up in more SERPs.

What is SiteRank?
If PageRank measures the importance of an individual page, SiteRank measures the quality of a site. Major factors that can measure the quality of a site may include:

  1. strength of content (size of the related content pages),
  2. quality of links (links from diversified sites with variant anchor text to many different pages),
  3. freshness of the content (regular update of content),
  4. uniqueness of content (less percentage of duplicate content),
  5. age of the site,
  6. outgoing links (less percentage of deadlinks and more relevant links), and
  7. Pagerank.

Why SiteRank and How Does It work?

When Sergy Brin and Larry Page (Google founders) weren't happy about the search results from early search engines (lycos, excite etc.), they tried Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) to improve the quality of search results. SLI didn't work really well. One of things they noticed that was some one-sentence page ranked #1 for very competitive search terms. So they introduced PageRank from Graphic Theory. PageRank drastically improved the quality of search results and the performance of search. A search engine can serve majority of searches using a small amount of documents. It (may) work like this:

  • if the search terms aren't specific, look at pages with higher PR pages (PR4 or higher?) only
  • if it can't find enough matching pages, search for pages with lower PRs.
  • if the search terms are very specific, search for both higher and lower PR pages.

That was when Google had a few million pages in its index database. Now with billions of pages in the index database, the new heuristic algorithm may work like this:

  • if the search terms aren't specific, look at pages from sites with higher SiteRanks (SR4 or higher?) only
  • if it can't find enough matching pages, search for pages from sites with lower SiteRanks.
  • if the search terms are very specific (more # of search words), search for pages from both higher and lower SiteRanks.

    Observation of SiteRank
  • If your site get a lot of traffic from keywords that appear only once in a page (not even in title or anchor text), your site has a very good SiteRank.
  • If your site get majority traffic from keywords that appear in title and anchor text, your site has a average or reasonable SiteRank.
  • If Pages that link to your pages are ranked higher than your page, your site has a low SiteRank.
  • Sandbox or Google Penalty - a very low SiteRank. Why adding many garbage words to your search terms can turn off Sandbox? Remember: "if the search terms are very specific (more # of search words), search for pages from both higher and lower SiteRanks".
  • Google Ban - a zero SiteRank. Google de-indexes a whole domain, not a sub-domain, not or a few directories. The algorithm work at site level.

Social Media Optimization

SMO is a way to optimize web sites so they would be more easily connected or interlaced with online communities and community websites, also called social media sites. Methods of SMO include adding RSS feeds

Five Suggestions for Social Media Optimzation (SMO)

* 1) Increase your linkability

* 2) Make tagging and bookmarking easy

* 3) Reward inbound links

* 4) Help your content travel

* 5) Encourage the mashup

  1. Increase your linkability - This is the first and most important priority for websites. Many sites are "static" - meaning they are rarely updated and used simply for a storefront. To optimize a site for social media, we need to increase the linkability of the content. Adding a blog is a great step, however there are many other ways such as creating white papers and thought pieces, or even simply aggregating content that exists elsewhere into a useful format.
  2. Make tagging and bookmarking easy - Adding content features like quick buttons to "add to del.icio.us" are one way to make the process of tagging pages easier, but we go beyond this, making sure pages include a list of relevant tags, suggested notes for a link (which come up automatically when you go to tag a site), and making sure to tag our pages first on popular social bookmarking sites (including more than just the homepage).
  3. Reward inbound links - Often used as a barometer for success of a blog (as well as a website), inbound links are paramount to rising in search results and overall rankings. To encourage more of them, we need to make it easy and provide clear rewards. From using Permalinks to recreating Similarly, listing recent linking blogs on your site provides the reward of visibility for those who link to you
  4. Help your content travel - Unlike much of SEO, SMO is not just about making changes to a site. When you have content that can be portable (such as PDFs, video files and audio files), submitting them to relevant sites will help your content travel further, and ultimately drive links back to your site.
  5. Encourage the mashup - In a world of co-creation, it pays to be more open about letting others use your content (within reason). YouTube's idea of providing code to cut and paste so you can imbed videos from their site has fueled their growth. Syndicating your content through RSS also makes it easy for others to create mashups that can drive traffic or augment your content.

Every business has an online presence and the idea behind this is to reach out to a wider customer base spread all over the world. Today for any business the customer and target people is no longer confined to a certain locality, but has spread out worldwide. Today, if any business has a web presence, they need to undertake search engine optimization strategy to make their site popular among the web users. Now if a website is not popular among web users the whole propose of having a web presence for the business will fail.

Do SEO Yourself (Tutorial)

SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization". It is the process of analyzing your potential design and problems for search engines indexing and positioning. In other words, making your web site and its content attractive, relevant and visible to search engines and web searchers.

There is nothing worse than having a beautiful web site with excellent written content, though you still lose traffic or you even keep potential visitors away, while your site cannot be found.

Before you begin optimizing your pages for Search Engines, consider that the following search engine optimization techniques are SPAM!

* automatically generated doorway pages
* cloaking and false redirects
* keyword stuffing
* hidden text or hidden links
* pages loaded with irrelevant words
* duplicated content on multiple pages
* misspelling of well-known web sites
* unrelated and centralized link farms
* other methods that try to trick search engines

If you use one of the above techniques, you might get short term results, but it's most likely that your site will be banned from search engines, and therefore you will put your business at severe risk.

You will have more success, if you will optimize your site for humans, and not machines.

Good luck with Search Engine Optimization.

Site Map

Sitemap contain page elements of the particular site.

A site map is a visual or textually organized model of a Web site's content that allows the users to navigate through the site to find the information they are looking for.
A site map is a kind of interactive table of contents, in which each listed item links directly to its counterpart sections of the Web site. Site maps perform the same service that the layout maps in large shopping malls perform.

Benefits
Site maps can improve search engine optimization of a site by making sure that all the pages can be found. This is especially important if a site uses Macromedia Flash or JavaScript menus that do not include HTML links.

Most search engines will only follow a finite number of links from a page, so if a site is very large, the site map may be required so that search engines and visitors can access all content on the site.

Types
There are at least three major types of sitemaps:

What is a Sitemap file and why should I have one?

You can use a sitemap file to tell us about all the pages on your site, and optionally, to provide information about those pages, such as which are most important and how often they change. Sitemaps are particularly helpful if your site has dynamic content, pages that aren't easily discovered by following links, or if your site is new and has few links to it.
Sitemaps helps speed up the discovery of your pages, which is an important first step in crawling and indexing your pages, but there are many other factors that influence the crawling/indexing processes. Sitemaps lets you tell us information about your pages (which ones you think are most important, how often the pages change), so you can have a voice in these subsequent steps. Other factors include:

A sitemap provides an additional view into your site (just as your home page and HTML site map do), but sitemaps do not replace our normal methods of crawling the web. Google still searches and indexes your sites in the normal way, whether or not you use this program, and sites are never penalized for using this service. We can't make any predictions or guarantees about when or if your URLs will be crawled or added to our index but over time, as we refine our processes and better understand webmasters' needs, we expect both coverage and time-to-index to improve.
Once you have created your Sitemap, you can add it to your Google Sitemaps account and update it as your site changes.

About Link Bait

Link bait is any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites. Attempts to create link bait are frequently employed in the overall task of search engine optimization. Matt Cutts defines link bait as anything "... interesting enough to catch people's attention." [1] Typically, users on bulletin boards, newsgroups, social networking websites, or blogs place a link to a website in some copy that further encourages another member or visitor to click. It can be an extremely powerful form of marketing as it is viral in nature.

Link bait in search engine optimization

The quantity and quality of inbound links are two of the many metrics used by a search engine ranking algorithm to rank a website. Link bait creation falls under the task of link building, and aims to increase the quantity of high-quality, relevant links to a website. It is considered to be a white hat optimization method almost universally. Part of successful linkbaiting is devising a mini-PR campaign around the release of a linkbait article so that bloggers and social media users are made aware and can help promote the piece in tandem.

Types of link bait

Although there are no clear-cut subdivisions within link bait, many attempt to divide them into types of hooks. This is a short list of some of the most common approaches with brief descriptions:

  • Informational Hooks - Provide information that a reader may find very useful. Some rare tips and tricks or any personal experience through which readers can benefit.
  • News Hooks - Provide fresh information and garner citations and links as the news spreads.
  • Humor Hooks - Tell a funny story or a joke. A bizarre picture of your subject or mocking cartoons can also prove to be a link bait.
  • Evil Hooks - Saying something unpopular or mean may also yield a lot of attention. Writing about something that is not appealing about a product or a popular blogger. Provide strong reasons for it.
  • Tool Hooks - Create some sort of tool that is useful enough that people link to it.

10 TIPS FOR YAHOO MARKETING SUCCESS

Use keywords in ad text Show the searcher that your ad is relevant. Yahoo will display the search keywords in bold in your ad if they're present. This helps your ad stand out from the crowd.

Bid for double exposure Perform a search on search.yahoo.com and notice that 2 or 3 ads are displayed twice on the page, at the bottom of the page in full length and at the top right in condensed form. Rather than bidding high for the full ads at the top of the page, consider bidding lower for the bottom of the page and double your exposure.

Take advantage of bid gaps Large advertisers blindly set bids across all keywords. This creates a tremendous opportunity to save money. Bid on a keyword by keyword basis rather than setting bids by category.

Avoid bidding wars Don't waste money getting into bidding wars for a handful of high volume keywords. Instead, expand your keyword list to include more specific keywords that have a lower search volume. Collectively, these keywords will reach the search volume of more expensive keywords. Your average CPC (cost per click) will fall dramatically using this tactic. Use keyword research tools to expand your list of keyword phrases.

Use both standard and advanced match types Start with match types set to advanced, unless you are on a very tight budget or nervous about your ad spend. Track initial results very closely. For high volume keywords that aren't performing well, either add excluded words or switch to standard match.

Use excluded words Your advanced match ad will not be displayed if the search includes an excluded word. Add more excluded words at regular intervals. As your excluded word list grows, you will save money by avoiding unqualified clicks. Plus, you'll decrease the chance of your keywords being removed due to low click index scores. For example, if you sell products or services at a premium, include excluded words like: free cheap discount

Use a relevant landing page For most searches, don't point the ad to your home page. Choose a landing page on your site that includes the keywords from the search. In some cases, it's worth creating a custom page that's not in the normal navigation of your site.

Try the plural trick The keyword selector tool doesn't usually differentiate between plural and singular forms of a keyword. However, there are instances where this is not the case. Always check both forms of a keyword. Creating ads for the plural form when it's available will increase your keyword inventory and will lower your overall CPC as most advertisers don't know to bid on these keywords.

Don't forget about MSN When setting bids for keywords, test those keyword searches on both search.msn.com and search.yahoo.com to see the position of your ads. MSN sells their own keyword ads but supplements with Overture results. MSN can be a valuable source of traffic and should not be overlooked. Set your bids accordingly.

Track your results Don't rely on Yahoo's reporting tools. They're reasonable, but you need more detail, particularly to see which actual keyword phrases your advanced matches are triggering. You'll need this to help build your list of excluded words for advanced match keywords. Plus, click fraud is a problem and needs to be addressed. If you don't have web analytics software in place, use our free Yahoo Search Marketing tracking software. Make sure Yahoo's Easy Track feature is turned on.

The Madness of King Google

When Google arrived on the scene in the late 1990s, they came in with a new idea of how to rank pages. Until then, search engines had ranked each page according to what was in the page - it's content - but it was easy for people to manipulate a page's content and move it up the rankings. Google's new idea was to rank pages largely by what was in the links that pointed to them - the clickable link text - which made it a little more difficult for page owners to manipulate the page's rankings.

Changing the focus from what is in a page to what other websites and pages say about a page (the link text), produced much more relevant search results than the other engines were able to produce at the time.

The idea worked very well, but it could only work well as long as it was never actually used in the real world. As soon as people realised that Google were largely basing their rankings on link text, webmasters and search engine optimizers started to find ways of manipulating the links and link text, and therefore the rankings. From that point on, Google's results deteriorated, and their fight against link manipulations has continued. We've had link exchange schemes for a long time now, and they are all about improving the rankings in Google - and in the other engines that copied Google's idea.

In the first few months of this year (2006), Google rolled out a new infrastructure for their servers. The infrastructure update was called "Big Daddy". As the update was completed, people started to notice that Google was dropping their sites' pages from the index - their pages were being dumped. Many sites that had been fully indexed for a long time were having their pages removed from Google's index, which caused traffic to deteriorate, and business to be lost. It caused a great deal of frustration, because Google kept quiet about what was happening. Speculation about what was causing it was rife, but nobody outside Google knew exactly why the pages were being dropped.

Then on the 16th May 2006, Matt Cutts, a senior Google software engineer, finally explained something about what was going on. He said that the dropping of pages is caused by the improved crawling and indexing functions in the new Big Daddy infrastructure, and he gave some examples of sites that had had their pages dropped.

Here is what Matt said about one of the sites:

Some one sent in a health care directory domain. It seems like a fine site, and it’s not linking to anything junky. But it only has six links to the entire domain. With that few links, I can believe that out toward the edge of the crawl, we would index fewer pages.

And about the same site, he went on to say:

A few more relevant links would help us know to crawl more pages from your site.

Because the site hasn't attracted enough relevant links to it, it won't have all of its pages included in Google's index, in spite of the fact that, in Matt's words, "it seems like a fine site". He also said the same about another of the examples that he gave.

Let me repeat one of the things that he said about that site. "A few more relevant links would help us know to crawl more pages from your site." What??? They know that the site is there! They know that the site has more pages that they haven't crawled and indexed! They don't need any additional help to know to crawl more pages from the site! If the site has "fine" pages then index them, dammit. That's what a search engine is supposed to do. That's what Google's users expect them to do.

Google never did crawl all sites equally. The amount of PageRank in a site has always affected how often a site is crawled. But they've now added links to the criteria, and for the first time they are dumping a site's pages OUT of the index if it doesn't have a good enough score. What sense is there in dumping perfectly good and useful pages out of the index? If they are in, leave them in. Why remove them? What difference does it make if a site has only one link pointing to it or a thousand links pointing to it? Does having only one link make it a bad site that people would rather not see? If it does, why index ANY of it's pages? Nothing makes any sort of sense.

So we now have the situation where Google intentionally leaves "fine" and useful pages out of their index, simply because the sites haven't attracted enough links to them. It is grossly unfair to website owners, especially to the owners of small websites, most of whom won't even know that they are being treated so unfairly, and it short-changes Google's users, since they are being deprived of the opportunity to find many useful pages and resources.

So what now? Google has always talked against doing things to websites and pages, solely because search engines exist. But what can website owners do? Those who aren't aware of what's happening to their sites simply lose - end of story. Those who are aware of it are forced into doing something solely because search engines exist. They are forced to contrive unnatural links to their sites - something that Google is actually fighting against - just so that Google will treat them fairly.

Incidentally, link exchanges are no good, because Matt also said that too many reciprocal links causes the same negative effect. The effect being that the site isn't crawled as often, and fewer pages from the site are indexed.

It's a penalty. There is no other way to see it. If a site is put on the Web, and the owner doesn't go in for search engine manipulation by doing unnatural link-building, the site gets penalised by not having all of its pages indexed. It can't be seen as anything other than a penalty.

Is that the way to run a decent search engine? Not in my opinion it isn't. Do Google's users want them to leave useful pages and resources out of the index, just because they haven't got enough links pointing to them? I don't think so. As a Google user, I certainly don't want to be short-changed like that. It is sheer madness to do it. The only winners are those who manipulate Google by contriving unnatural links to their sites. The filthy linking rich get richer, and the link-poor get poorer - and pushed by Google towards spam methods.

Google's new crawling/indexing system is lunacy. It is grossly unfair to many websites that have never even tried to manipulate the engine by building unnatural links to their sites, and it is very bad for Google's users, who are intentionally deprived of the opportunity to find many useful pages and resources. Google people always talk about improving the user's experience, but now they are intentionally depriving their users. It is sheer madness!

What's wrong with Google indexing decent pages, just because they are there? Doesn't Google want to index all the good pages for their users any more? It's what a search engine is supposed to do, it's what Google's users expect it to do, and it's what Google's users trust it to do, but it's not what Google is doing.

At the time of writing, the dropping of pages is continuing with a vengeance, and more and more perfectly good sites are being affected.
